Zafira or Staria

Take the Staria if nine people are genuinely travelling and take the Zafira for everything else. The Staria has sliding doors on both sides, a tall glasshouse that makes the back rows feel like a lounge rather than a minibus, and the most comfortable seats in the class. It's also nearly two metres tall, which is fine for mall car parks but worth remembering under the older height bars in Deira.

The Zafira is lower and shorter, drives like a large estate car, and parks in a standard bay with the mirrors folded. If the van will do a week of hotel-to-beach runs with five or six aboard, the Zafira is the easier life.

When a seven-seat SUV is the better pick

At five or six people, a seven-seat SUV is usually the nicer week. The Exeed VX or the Chevrolet Tahoe from the SUVs is quieter on the E11, easier in a Marina tower car park, and the Tahoe carries almost as much luggage as the Zafira with its third row up. From seven people with luggage, or nine people at all, the van wins and nothing else on the site does the job.
