UAE Petrol Prices This Month (Updated Monthly)

September 2026: Special 95 is AED 3.69 a litre, up AED 0.20 on August. That's the grade nearly every rental car in Dubai runs on. A full tank in a Nissan Sunny is about AED 151 this month, and a Chevrolet Tahoe is about AED 336. Petrol prices in the UAE are set once a month for the whole country. The figure is the same at every pump from Jebel Ali to Fujairah, and it won't move again until 1 October. The table below has all four grades against last month, and the rest of the page is the part that doesn't change.

Prices for September 2026

All figures are per litre with VAT included, from the Fuel Price Committee's announcement on 31 August, reported in Gulf News under September 2026 fuel prices. It's the third monthly rise in a row, and diesel took the biggest step. For a petrol car the extra 20 fils is small change per tank: about AED 8 more than August on a Sunny, AED 18 more on a Tahoe.

What a full tank costs on the cars people rent

Tank sizes below are the manufacturers' figures for the cars sold here, and the costs are at this month's Special 95 price, rounded to the dirham.

Nobody fills from empty, so knock a third off those for a normal top-up. A week in a Sunny with Abu Dhabi and Hatta in it burns roughly two tanks, call it AED 300 of fuel across seven days. That's a smaller line than the deposit hold, which is why fuel rarely decides which car to rent. The daily rate does. Where fuel does matter is the Tahoe end of the fleet. The same week in a 5.3-litre V8 is nearer AED 600, before you've paid for the car. The most fuel-efficient rental cars post does the litres-per-100 km sums if you're choosing between the two.

Whatever you burn, the return rule with us is same-to-same. The level is photographed at handover and you bring the car back at that level, or pay the missing litres at pump price. The full mileage and fuel policy is in its own post.

How the monthly price is set

The UAE stopped fixing fuel prices on 1 August 2015. Since then a Fuel Price Committee has set one retail price for the whole country each month. The Ministry of Energy chairs it, with the Ministry of Finance, ADNOC Distribution and ENOC sitting on it. The announcement lands in the last days of the month and applies from the 1st.

What the committee follows is the international price of refined petrol, which tracks Brent crude with a delay. A jump in crude in the second week of a month shows up in the price announced at the end of it. You then pay that for the whole of the following month. That's why 2026 has been so lumpy. Special 95 went from AED 2.48 in March to AED 3.83 in June as crude climbed, fell back to 3.29 in July, and has been climbing since.

Which fuel to put in a rental car

Special 95. That's the answer for nearly every car on a Dubai rental fleet, from the Sunny through the Coolray to the Tahoe. It's what the manufacturers specify for the Gulf market.

Super 98 is for a handful of performance cars. On our fleet that means the Mustang and the Camaro, where the higher grade is what the engine is tuned for. E-Plus 91 is the cheapest grade, but saving 8 fils a litre in a car you don't own isn't worth the experiment.

Most rental agreements don't state a grade, and ours doesn't either. So check the inside of the fuel flap first, since some cars print the minimum octane there. If it says nothing, 95 is the safe fill. And if you've booked something with a big engine, ask at handover. The person handing you the keys knows what it drinks.

Paying at the pump

Four brands run the stations. ENOC and EPPCO cover most of Dubai, ADNOC has Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates and a growing number of Dubai sites, and Emarat holds the older parts of town. Pull into whichever is on your side of the road.

An attendant fills the car. You stay in your seat, say the grade and "full", and pay when they come back with the card terminal. Cards work everywhere and so does cash. Both ENOC and ADNOC have apps that let you pay from the driver's seat. Tipping isn't expected. Some people round up a couple of dirhams, and nobody minds if you don't.

All in AED per litre. Special 95 has run from AED 2.33 in February to AED 3.83 in June. Anyone budgeting a monthly rental should work at AED 3.50 to 3.80 a litre, not the price on the day they book.
