Parking without drama

At 4.41 metres long the JS4 is compact by SUV standards, and that matters more than any spec when you're new to mall car parks. Tight spiral ramps, narrow bays and pillars everywhere are standard issue in Dubai. Use the camera, take the bay at walking pace, and the JS4's square shape makes it easy to place. Practice in a quiet open lot on day one if you're fresh off the licence. Ten minutes there saves a claim later. And when a bay looks too tight, it probably is; Dubai always has another one thirty seconds further along, usually with fewer pillars.

Summer, since you'll ask

Get in a sun-parked car in July and the seat, the belt buckle and the wheel will all be hot enough to complain about. The JS4's AC pulls the cabin back to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, faster if you crack the windows for the first block. It's a small cabin, which for once is an advantage. Just keep the sunroof blind closed through summer and don't leave anything meltable on the dash.

Our recommendation

If this is your first rental in Dubai, or your first year of driving full stop, the JS4 is the one we'd put you in: forgiving, easy to see out of, cheap to run, delivered to your door within an hour or two. Experienced drivers who want pace or polish should look further up the fleet, because this car's talent is being undemanding. For a young renter finding their feet on unfamiliar roads, undemanding is exactly the right car.
