The C4 and its boot
380 litres with the rear seats up, 1,250 litres with them folded. Two large cases lie flat, and a cabin bag goes on top with the parcel shelf out. That settles the luggage question for a couple arriving at DXB, and for a resident doing a monthly shop. What it doesn't settle is four adults with a large case each, and that's a sedan's job: the Nissan Sunny or the MG5 on the sedan grid carry that load with the back seats up.
The rear seats fold 60/40, so you can keep one passenger and still bring a long box back from Al Quoz.
How the C4 rides in Dubai
Softly, and that's the whole point of the car. The C4 has Citroen's hydraulic bump stops built into the dampers and extra-thick foam in the seats, and together they take the edge off the speed bumps in JVC and the broken joints on the older Deira roads in a way no other small hatchback we rent does. On Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a lope that's closer to a bigger car than to a small hatch.
The engine is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo of about 130 hp with an eight-speed automatic. That's enough to merge and hold the limit without drama, and it thrums at idle in a way a four-cylinder doesn't, which some people mind on the first day and nobody mentions after. The ride height sits between a hatchback and a crossover, so a fully loaded car clears the taller speed humps without scraping.
How long you'll rent Citroen cars in Dubai decides it
For a month, the C4. The comfort is what you notice on the twentieth commute rather than the first, and the boot handles the weekend runs in between. For two days in the city with one bag, the MG3 on the MG grid is the smaller, cheaper hatchback and parks more easily in the Marina. The Opel Corsa is the sharper car to drive and has the smallest boot of the three.
There's no second Citroen on the grid, so if the C4 is booked on your dates the answer is one of the other hatchbacks. If it's free, take it. It's the most comfortable small car we rent, and the one small hatchback whose boot takes a real week of luggage.

Can the Citroen C4's raised ride height handle the Hatta road or a gravel track?
The tarmac to Hatta, yes, and the gravel and wadi tracks past it, no. The C4 sits a few centimetres higher than an ordinary hatchback, which helps with speed humps and the odd broken kerb, but it's front-wheel drive on road tyres with no low range, and the soft suspension that makes it so easy on Al Khail Road lets the body pitch about on a rutted track. The E44 out to Hatta and the road on to the dam and the lake are all sealed, and the car does that day comfortably with two people and a picnic. Anything off the tarmac is a job for the Jetour T2 or the Nissan Patrol on our other grids, and whether a particular track is allowed on a rental is confirmed at booking.
Can a three-cylinder Citroen C4 handle the Dubai to Abu Dhabi drive?
Yes, and it's one of the cheaper cars on our grid to do it in on fuel. The 1.2-litre turbo returns about 6 litres per 100 km at a steady 120 km/h, so the Abu Dhabi round trip uses roughly a third of the 50-litre tank and a full tank covers around 750 km of highway. Where you'll notice the three cylinders is an overtake with four aboard, when the eight-speed drops two gears and takes a moment to gather itself, so plan overtakes on the E11 rather than diving for gaps. With the cruise control set at the limit, the engine is barely audible over the tyres.
Can I extend a Citroen C4 rental in Dubai if my trip runs over?
Yes, and the earlier you ask, the more likely the answer stays yes, because we hold one C4 and someone may have it booked from your return date. Two or three days before the rental ends is the right time, and you keep the same car with no handover in between. If the C4 is already spoken for, we'll say so and point you at the nearest hatchback on the grid for the extra days, which is usually the MG3 or the Corsa. Nothing about the car changes on the day the original booking would have ended, so there's no need to bring it in.
Do you have a C3 or a C5 Aircross when I rent Citroen cars in Dubai?
Not from us at the moment. The C4 is the only Citroen on our grid, a white 2023 hatchback, and we don't list a C3, a C5 Aircross or a C4 X. If you had a different Citroen in mind, the closest cars we rent are the Peugeot 2008 for a small crossover on the same platform and the Opel Corsa for a smaller hatchback. If the C4 is booked on your dates, those are the two to look at first.
Is the Citroen C4's soft ride a problem for anyone?
For a rear-seat passenger who gets car sick, sometimes. The suspension lets the body float over the long undulations on Emirates Road and lean through the Sheikh Zayed Road interchanges more than a firmer hatchback does, and the person in the back feels it before the driver does. If that's someone in your party, put them in the front, or take the Opel Corsa, which is the firmer of the two. For the driver on a daily commute the softness is the reason to book the car, and after a week you stop noticing it and start missing it in everything else.
