The first thing we ask anyone who wants to rent Tesla cars in Dubai is where the car will sleep. A villa socket, a tower car park with a charger, or a hotel with nothing settles a Tesla rental in Dubai before the model does. Bintali rents the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and the six-seat Model X in Dubai, and because these are the most expensive cars most people will hire here, checkout has a no-deposit option for a small extra fee. Where a deposit is taken instead, it's refunded within 15 to 25 days after you return the car. Sort the charging first and the choice gets short: the 2024 Model 3 for one or two people, the Model Y once there's a child seat involved.
Where a rental Tesla charges in Dubai
Three places: Tesla's own Superchargers, DEWA's Green Charger network, and wherever you sleep. Dubai has Superchargers at the Dubai Mall Za'abeel car park, Mall of the Emirates, Al Habtoor City on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Hills, the Meadows, Wadi Al Safa on Emirates Road, and on both sides of Sheikh Zayed Road at Jebel Ali for the Abu Dhabi run. At up to 250 kW, a Model 3 goes from 20 to 80 percent in roughly half an hour, which is a coffee, not an evening.
DEWA's Green Chargers sit at malls, petrol stations and some residential communities, and a visitor can use them by scanning the QR code on the charger and paying as a guest, with no DEWA account. A normal wall socket at a villa adds about 10 to 15 km of range an hour, enough to replace a commute overnight. How charging is paid for, and the charge level the car comes back with, are confirmed at booking.
The one setup we talk people out of is a hotel with no charger and days that start in Deira and end in Jebel Ali. That's a Supercharger stop every second evening, and it gets old by Wednesday.
Tesla Model 3 rental Dubai: the 2021 or the 2024
Book the 2024 if it's on the grid when you look. It's the facelifted car, and the changes are the ones you feel in Dubai traffic: double-glazed glass all round, a softer suspension, ventilated front seats, and a cabin that's noticeably quieter on the concrete of Al Khail Road. It also has no stalks. Indicators are buttons on the wheel and you pick drive or reverse on the screen, which takes a morning to get used to and then stops mattering.
The 2021 is the rear-drive car with stalks and a firmer ride, and there's nothing wrong with it for a week. Its summer range is about 350 km with the air conditioning fighting a 45-degree afternoon, against roughly 400 km for the 2024. Both take two large cases in the boot and a cabin bag in the front trunk. For a month, take the 2024, and the quiet cabin is the reason.
Model Y for the child seat and the luggage
The Model Y is the Tesla we hand to families, and the one to book if you're flying in with more than two cases. It's the Model 3 platform sat higher, with a tailgate, around 850 litres behind the rear seats once you count the well under the floor, and rear seats high enough that an Isofix seat goes in without kneeling in the car park. Two adults, two children, a stroller and a week of luggage fit with the seats up.
The 2022 and 2023 on the grid are both the dual-motor Long Range car and drive the same, so pick by colour. Summer range is about 400 km, so the Abu Dhabi round trip of roughly 280 km is a one-charge day.
The Performance cars and Dubai's cameras
The Model 3 Performance and the Model Y Performance are the same cars with a lot more of everything. The 2024 Model 3 Performance reaches 100 km/h in about 3.1 seconds on adaptive suspension and 20-inch wheels. The 2022 Model Y Performance does it in about 3.7 seconds on 21-inch wheels and rides harder than the standard Y, which you notice on the speed bumps in JVC before you notice the speed anywhere.
Neither car makes a sound doing it, and the cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road don't care how quietly you got there. Traffic fines are billed at cost after the trip, itemised, with nothing added on top, and we mention it here because these two cars collect them faster than anything else on the grid.
Model S and the six-seat Model X
The Model S is the longest-range car on the grid and the Model X is the only Tesla here that seats more than five. The 2023 Model S is good for about 480 km in summer, and it's the Tesla for someone who'll commute to Abu Dhabi every day and wants to charge once, overnight, and not think about it. It's also a much bigger car to park than the Model 3.
The 2023 Model X on our grid is the six-seat layout: two captain's chairs in the middle row, a walk-through to a two-seat third row, and rear doors that open upward. With all six seats in use, the luggage goes behind the third row and in the front trunk, which is a couple of cases and the cabin bags, not a family's week. It's the electric answer to the Patrol or the Tahoe for a family of five with luggage, as long as there's a charger where it sleeps.
Rent Tesla cars in Dubai: the pick for each trip
For a week or a month with a socket at home, the 2024 Model 3. For a family, the Model Y, without much debate. The Model S if the Abu Dhabi commute is daily, the six-seat Model X if the group is six, and a Performance car only if you want the acceleration and accept what the cameras will do with it.
Two kinds of people should be on another grid. If you want an electric car but not a Tesla, the Zeekr 001 is an all-wheel-drive hatchback on our Zeekr grid and the MG Cyberster a two-seat electric convertible on the MG grid, and both sit with the Teslas on the electric category page. If you're in a hotel with no charger and your days are long, rent petrol. A Mazda 6 or a Volkswagen T-Roc from the standard grid gives you the same week without a charging plan.
FAQ — Common Questions Answered.
What if the building I'm staying in has no charger for a rental Tesla?
Ask the building management before you assume there isn't one, because a lot of the newer towers in the Marina, JLT and Business Bay have a DEWA Green Charger in the visitor bays that the residents walk past every day. If there really isn't one, a DEWA AC charger at a mall fills a Model 3 at about 11 kW, which is roughly 60 to 70 km of range an hour, so two hours over dinner covers a day of driving and a near-empty battery is full in about six hours. A JVC to Business Bay commute is about 50 km a day return, so the 2024 Model 3 covers a working week on one charge without a socket at home. Ask us at booking whether the car has its mobile connector in the boot, because a friend's villa socket is only useful if the cable travels with the car.
Will a rental Tesla cope with Dubai's summer while it's parked in the sun?
Yes, and it does most of the work itself. Cabin Overheat Protection, switched on from the Safety menu on the screen, keeps the cabin below about 40 degrees for up to 12 hours after you lock the car, which is the difference between a seat you can sit on and one you can't at 5 pm in a Deira car park. It uses some range doing it, so on a day you're pushing the battery to its limit, switch it off. The fans and pumps running loudly on a parked Tesla in July are the car cooling its own battery, and "is something wrong with it" is the call we get most in the first week of a summer rental.
Can I rent Tesla cars in Dubai without paying a security deposit?
Yes. You choose the no-deposit option at checkout when you pay, not at the handover, so decide before you confirm the booking. With nothing held on your card, there's nothing for tolls or fines to come out of, and any Salik and camera fines from the trip reach you afterwards as an itemised bill at cost. Take the option or leave it, the car, the charging arrangement and the return are the same either way.
Do I need the Tesla app to drive a rental Tesla?
No. The Model 3 and Model Y come with a key card that you tap on the door pillar to open the car and on the console to drive, and the Model S and Model X come with a key fob. The car's screen does everything you'd need the app for: the charging limit, the climate, and navigation with the Superchargers marked and the charge you'll arrive with. What you can't do without the app is start the air conditioning from your apartment, so on a July afternoon give the car a minute with the doors shut before you set off.
Is the Model 3 Performance a sensible car to rent in Dubai?
Sensible if you set it up for the city and save the rest for the on-ramps. Put the acceleration on Chill from the Pedals and Steering menu for traffic, because in Standard the car is past a 60 zone's limit from a standstill before the lights have finished changing, and it's the 60 and 80 zones along Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl, rather than Sheikh Zayed Road, where this car collects its fines. The 20-inch wheels have short sidewalls, and kerb marks from tower car parks are the damage we see most on it, so use the cameras when you park. If most of your driving is Al Khail Road at the limit, the standard 2024 car does the same job with less to keep an eye on.
