If you searched for a Hyundai rental in Dubai expecting a Tucson or an Accent, neither is here. The Staria is for groups, and the usual way people rent Hyundai cars in Dubai from us is eight passengers and a driver landing together at DXB or DWC. Nine seats, and where the luggage goes
Nine people fit; nine people with a large case each don't. The Staria seats nine across four rows, with sliding doors on both sides and a floor low enough that grandparents get in without a step. With every seat in use, the space behind the last row takes a cabin bag per person and three or four large cases stood upright. The comfortable use is six or seven people with their luggage, or the full nine once the cases are at the hotel.
Does the Staria need a bus licence
That's confirmed at booking, not assumed. Nine seats sits close to the point where UAE licence categories separate cars from light buses, so send us your licence details when you book and we'll tell you whether it covers the Staria before you pay. With a foreign licence, whether an International Driving Permit is needed alongside it depends on the issuing country, and that gets the same check. If your licence doesn't cover nine seats, the seven-seat Zafira or a seven-seat SUV is the fallback. The other thing to check is height: at 1.99 metres the Staria clears the newer mall car parks and most hotel basements but not every older tower in Deira or the Marina. If the bar at your building says 2.0 metres or less, plan on a surface bay.
Rent Hyundai cars in Dubai only if nine seats is the point
If the group is seven or fewer, skip the Staria. The MG RX9 and Jetour X70 Plus among the seven-seat SUVs do the job with a smaller footprint. If you want a van but nine is too many, the Opel Zafira on the van grid comes in seven- and nine-seat versions, and the seven-seat Zafira with its third row folded carries more luggage than the Staria with every row up. Where the Staria wins is rows three and four, where adults sit for an hour without complaint.
For eight or nine arriving together it's the car, and it books early in the winter conference months and the school holidays.

Can I drive the nine-seat Hyundai Staria on a normal car licence?
Only once we've confirmed it at booking, so send your licence details with the request and don't plan around the van until the answer comes back. If your licence doesn't cover nine seats, the fix is usually two cars rather than one: a seven-seat Zafira plus a sedan carries nine people and every case, and more comfortably than the Staria with all four rows full. If someone else in the group holds a licence that does cover it, say so at the same time and the booking goes in their name from the start. Do the check before you travel, not at the terminal.
Do the back rows of the Staria get air conditioning?
Yes, every row. The Staria has a separate rear air-conditioning unit with roof vents running the length of the cabin, so row four cools at the same time as row one instead of waiting for cold air to drift back. Give it five minutes with the doors shut before nine people climb in from the terminal. Keep the sliding doors closed while you load through the tailgate, because with both sides open the whole cabin is open and it heats back up in the time it takes to stack the cases.
Can I rent Hyundai cars in Dubai other than the Staria, like a Tucson or an Accent?
Not from us at the moment; the Staria is the only Hyundai on our grid. For the job a Tucson does, the Geely Coolray, MG ZS and Nissan Kicks are the closest cars we list. For an Accent-sized sedan, people take the Nissan Sunny or the MG5.
Is the Staria the right van for a group arriving at Dubai airport?
Yes, for eight or nine landing together. Give us the flight number for the leg that lands in Dubai, not the first connection, and if the group is split across two flights give us the later one so the handover is timed for the last arrival. Send one person to take the van at the terminal handover while the rest wait with the trolleys at the kerb, because nine people and nine trolleys in the arrivals hall is slower than it sounds. Load the cases first through the tailgate, then fill the rows from the back, since you can't reach the last row past a full third row.
Is the Staria hard to drive if you've only ever driven cars?
No harder than a large SUV, and easier to load. It's 5.25 metres long and about 2 metres wide, with a reversing camera and sensors, so reverse into bays and leave the nose out. The sliding doors mean you don't need space beside it to unload. The 3.5-litre V6 doesn't notice nine people on the climb up to Hatta, and it doesn't notice the fuel gauge either, so plan a fill on the Abu Dhabi day rather than the day after. The seating position is high and the mirrors are large, and most drivers stop thinking about the size by the second roundabout.
